Hello from Reverend Mark
Hello!
I’m Rev. Mark and I am the local Methodist Minister, with pastoral charge of Rishton Methodist Church and another Methodist Church in Great Harwood. My charge also extends to Rishton Methodist School where I am available to offer pastoral and spiritual support to the school community – teachers, pupils, and even parents.
Part of my role is to help maintain within the school a Christian distinctiveness that makes us truly a ‘church’ school. I do this by being a visible presence in and around school – the ‘face of the church’ in school. I visit each class and teach topics about the Christian faith from the bible, I help the children understand Methodism, as well other significant events in the liturgical year that happen in church so that whenever children come over to church with this knowledge, they are comfortable in a church context. The church is not a place of mystery and unknowns.
There are strong links between the school and church. The entire school comes over to Rishton Methodist Church for collective worship every Tuesday morning at 9 am, to which parents are too welcome. These sessions are led by a small team of members from Rishton Methodist Church and Trinity URC Methodist Church in Great Harwood who have one goal: to make known to children God’s abundant love in Jesus for each of them.
Our collective worship in church also focusses on Christian values and how to apply them in their lives. As a church, we help children explore their individual spirituality and grow in knowledge of the Christian faith with an understanding of Methodist distinctiveness.
If you want to talk to me in confidence, I can be contacted via the school office or directly on 07305 805930 or mark.jason@methodist.org.uk
